What is the position of the conservatives on Boris Johnson’s re-prime ministership?

UK prime ministerial candidates after Liz Truss, which conservatives?

After the resignation of Liz Truss, what is the goal of the opposition parties?

Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the UK, who was forced to resign due to various crises recently, is considered one of the main options to return to No. 10 Downing Street due to the resignation of Liz Truss. The former prime minister of the UK did not rule out the possibility of returning to the competition for the position he resigned from a few weeks ago. Boris Johnson’s re-prime ministership is a strange thing.

Liz Truss’ inability to solve crises

Liz Truss, who replaced Boris Johnson as Prime Minister only 45 days ago, resigned after admitting that he could not solve the current crises in the UK. The Conservative Party faced another dilemma in less than a few weeks, the election of a Prime Minister. Boris Johnson came to power in the 2019 general election, and under the British constitution, this party can change the prime minister without holding another general election. A month ago, Liz Truss was elected by the members of the conservative party as the leader of this party and the prime minister. Boris Johnson’s re-prime ministership has supporters.

Increasing support for Boris Johnson’s re-prime ministership

Boris Johnson’s re-prime ministership has support in parliament. One of Boris Johnson’s closest loyalists, Jacob Rees-Mogg, who was his business secretary, has launched a campaign on social media to invite him back to Downing Street. Dozens of parliamentarians have also supported his return. Ben Wallace, the former defence minister of the UK, while rejecting his participation in this competition, said that he supports Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson was caught in the wave of resignations.

According to the rules of the conservative party, Tories can nominate a person for the prime ministerial race if he has the support of 100 representatives. At first glance, this issue does not seem so simple for a person who, just a few months ago, 148 members of his party voted against him in the vote of confidence. Those opposing voices are still heard these days.

The opposition of some of Boris Johnson’s conservatives

Roger Gale, a member of the Conservative Party, said that if Boris Johnson becomes Prime Minister again, he will resign from his position. Sir Roger, another staunch critic of Johnson, told the Radio Times: “I think if he comes back, there will be people like myself who will have to make tough decisions like resigning.” The Tory MP Crispin Blunt also said that Johnson was not the person who could restore the reputation of the conservative party. “I don’t think we can go back there for the next two years,” Blunt said.

Boris Johnson’s popularity in the polls

Conservatives created the hashtag #BringBorisBack on Twitter on Thursday after Truss announced his resignation. The possible return of Johnson, who resigned in July after a series of scandals, provoked mixed reactions. However, Boris Johnson has been famous in the polls. Polls in the final days of Liz Truss’s government have polled Boris Johnson as the most popular choice to take over as prime minister if Liz Truss resigns.

Boris Johnson’s most serious rival for re-prime ministership

But Boris Johnson faces a formidable challenger to return to power, and that is none other than Rishi Sunak, his own Chancellor of the Exchequer, who, of course, lost to Liz Truss in the race a few weeks ago and was unable to succeed Johnson. Sunak is currently in a better position than Boris Johnson; According to the Standard, he polled Conservative MPs about Johnson and Sunak, and the number of those who supported the ex-challenger was ten more than Johnson.

50 conservatives support Rishi Sunak

According to this report, more than 50 conservative party representatives have declared their support for Sunak. “I believe Rishi Sunak is the best person to take the Conservative party and, most importantly, the country forward,” Gavin Williamson, the former UK education secretary, wrote on Twitter. Although Sunak and Johnson have not officially declared their readiness to enter the race, the initial endorsements are usually considered good indicators for predicting the work results.

Decrease in the popularity of the conservatives in the polls

Conservatives, who have lost their popularity based on opinion polls, are trying to find a suitable replacement for their fledgling prime minister by preventing re-election. The resignation of Liz Truss after only a few weeks has now put the British conservatives, who, according to polls, have lost their popularity among citizens, in a more difficult situation.

The Conservatives are looking for a successor to Liz Truss

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned after only six weeks in office. There are calls for a new election, but the Conservatives won’t allow that, instead glancing to find a replacement for Truss. It is clear to the opposition in Westminster that a new election must now be held.

Rival parties seek to hold new elections.

However, Keir Starmer, the leader of the British opposition and the Labor Party, has announced his readiness to take over the government. “Public is entitled to their say, and that’s why there should be a general election,” Starmer told Sky News. This social democratic politician calls for an immediate new election like other opposition parties. Labour leader Keir Starmer made this clear.

Criticism of the opposition of the economic programs of the conservatives

Ed Davey, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, also commented that Liz Truss had ruined the British economy by cutting taxes without considering the budget. Before him, Boris Johnson defeated the country by lying and breaking the law. Conservatives have proven to be incapable of running the country. We don’t need another Conservative Prime Minister, we need a general election, and Conservative MPs should do their patriotic duty and vote for it.

The defeat of conservatives in case of elections

However, this is just a request. The opposition can only demand new elections. Even if it all happened again, there is no compulsion that the Conservatives would accept a re-vote. The Conservatives have to do it themselves, and they won’t because they are trailing Labor by 30% or more in the polls and losing in general elections. Mark Garnier, a conservative representative, evaluates the situation like this and says: “If we had an election tomorrow, there would not be a single Conservative MP left.”

The opposition of conservatives to holding general elections

So only the Conservatives will decide who moves into 10 Downing Street in the future, and the third prime minister will be short-term. If there are up to three candidates, the Conservative MPs vote and the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated. The two remaining candidates will be re-voted. But in this case, no one is excluded, it is only necessary to indicate which candidate the representatives prefer.

Liz Truss resigned after her economic plan shocked financial markets and split the Conservative Party. Liz Truss will remain Prime Minister until a successor is chosen. It doesn’t matter who replaces Liz Truss next week. He should try to unite the party and control the economic crisis.
