Perceptions of Rishi Sunak’s premiership

Rishi Sunak's premiership

Will Rishi Sunak's premiership save Britain?

Sunak is the top contender for the Conservative party’s leadership and thus to be the next Prime Minister. He was managing welfare spending while promoting business will be among his top tasks if he wins the leadership contest. Sunak’s promises to keep: ex-chancellor’s likely agenda if he becomes UK PM (Business Standard). Will Rishi Sunak be an excellent prime minister for the post-Boris era? How authentic are his promises? Will Rishi Sunak’s premiership save Britain?

Rishi Sunak’s premiership: Rishi Sunak’s stance on China and Russia

A critical issue to consider about Rishi Sunak’s premiership is Sunk’s stance on China and Russia. The news says that supporters of Liz Truss have accused Mr Sunak of being overly cautious about sanctions against Russia. According to India Today, Rishi Sunak has said China is the “number one threat” to domestic and global security. He has promised to take a more uncompromising stand against China if he becomes Britain’s next prime minister. His promise came after his rival in the election, Liz Truss, accused him of being weak on China and Russia.

Issue of immigration

The UK PM candidate Rishi Sunak has laid out a 10-point plan to curb illegal immigration. Rishi Sunak would focus on the issue of immigration to secure the UK’s borders if he won the Tory members’ postal ballot. “Our Parliament will be given control of the number of refugees we accept each year,” Sunak writes in The Daily Telegraph. Sunak campaigned for Britain to leave the European Union (EU) in the 2016 referendum. Sunak pointed out that immigration and a desire to control Britain’s borders were one of the factors that motivated him toward that decision (India Today).

Sunak’s intervention in Scotland

According to the National, Rishi Sunak has promised that if he wins the race to be the next Tory leader, he will become the most interventionist prime minister in Scotland since devolution began. Sunak claimed he would do “anything and everything” to protect the Union. He pledged to be “more active” in Scotland. He criticised Nicola Sturgeon for “constitutional navel-gazing. Sunak’s comments were reminiscent of previous claims that he would “circumvent Holyrood” to implement key policy decisions. He said: “There is nothing more Conservative than our precious Union. And everything great that we have achieved, we have done so as one family.” He added, “My government will do anything and everything to protect, sustain and strengthen it.”

Managing British economy

Rishi Sunak’s premiership will be similar to Margaret Thatcher’s. According to Business Insider, Sunak will run the economy like former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher if he wins. He said to The Daily Telegraph: “We will cut taxes, and we will do it responsibly.” He added: “That’s my economic approach. I would describe it as common sense Thatcherism. I believe that’s what she would have done.” He was the chancellor of the exchequer in Boris Johnson’s government. He raised taxes after borrowing heavily to protect lives, livelihoods, and businesses in the face of the Covid-19 challenge. Unlike his rivals in the leadership contest, he will refuse to cut taxes until the national debt comes down.

Yahoo Finance says Rishi Sunak has kicked off his campaign with a promise to tackle inflation and lower taxes. He warned Tories not to believe “fairy tales”. The former chancellor insisted he had a plan to deal with the economic crisis the country was facing. He said it is a matter of “when”, not “if”, and the tax burden starts to fall. He said: “I have a plan to steer our country through these headwinds. Once we have gripped inflation, I will get the tax burden down. It is a question of ‘when’, not ‘if’.”

Rishi Sunak’s stance on NHS backlog

Rishi Sunak says the massive NHS backlog is a national emergency. But can Rishi Sunak’s premiership solve NHS problems in the UK? According to the BBC, tackling the backlog in the NHS is the most significant public services emergency, Sunak has said. He said this as he and Liz Truss vie to become the UK’s next prime minister. More than 6.6 million people in England are waiting for hospital treatment. Mr Sunak plans to eliminate one-year waiting times by September 2024 and get overall numbers falling by next year.

Final remark

Britain’s former finance minister, Rishi Sunak, set out his leadership campaign pitch. He offered himself up as an “honest” prime minister. He has said he would balance the books, reduce the state’s role and grow the economy (Reuters). Can Sunak save the collapsing economy of Britain? As Britain’s former finance minister, he did not succeed in solving Britain’s economic crisis. Considering his background, how can we trust Rishi Sunak’s premiership and promises?

British NHS has faced a crisis. The NHS crisis is due to an economic crisis. Sunak cannot solve the NHS crisis unless he solves the financial problem. War in Ukraine has worsened energy and economic crises in Britain. Sunak should stop taking a tough stance against China and Russia. Instead, he should avoid following the US in efforts to expand NATO. The US and UK effort to expand NATO is a threat to Russia’s security and the region’s countries. A tough stance against China and Russia can exacerbate the British economic and energy crisis.

Finally, forcing Scotland to stay in the UK can create more tension. Westminster should give the Scottish people the right to decide their independence and future. As mentioned above, according to the National, Sunak claimed he would do “anything and everything” to protect the Union. Thus Sunak’s policy about Scotland will create more tension than unity. Rishi Sunak’s premiership does not seem more effective than Boris Johnson’s in solving health, energy, and economic crises.
