Boris Johnson Suggests a Broad Euro-Atlantic Unity to Defeat Vladimir Putin

The UK prime minister suggested that Britain’s NATO and non-NATO allies unite and work together in Eastern Europe. Brexit Britain has pursued a broader partnership in the Euro-Atlantic area to force Vladimir Putin to leave Ukraine. Boris Johnson has recently stolen the show to play a leading role and gain political ambitions.

Johnson Calls for Defending International Order

The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has set out a six-point action plan to counter Russia. He has published the project ahead of a series of meetings with world leaders. Boris Johnson has stressed that President of Russia Vladimir Putin must fail in his aggressive attempt in Ukraine. The UK Prime Minister has argued that the world must defend the rules-based international order. Boris Johnson has mentioned that the globe should ensure Vladimir Putin’s horrific invasion of Ukraine fails. Johnson is hosting several global leaders this week to build a union against Vladimir Putin. Besides intense meetings, the UK Prime Minister has promised harder and faster economic sanctions against Russia. The UK experienced Salisbury Novichok poisoning in 2018, and the world saw the annexation of Crimean in 2014. The West was not fast and had not done much to sanctions against Russia earlier.

UK PM Tries to Compensate His Growing Unpopularity

The UK Prime Minister has tried to take a leading role in the Ukrainian crisis. Not long ago, Boris Johnson was attempting to save his political place. Westminster gatherings, breaching lockdown rules, and police questioning were the headlines that had raised public anger. The UK Prime minister has made efforts to keep himself in Number 10 during the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Johnson’s critics have also said that it is a time to stand “united as the United Kingdom”. Boris Johnson has kept talking with world leaders from the very beginning of the crisis in Ukraine. He has kept in touch with his counterparts of the European Union and North America. The UK Prime Minister has held meetings with officials to build a coalition against Vladimir Putin. In his efforts to steal the show, Boris Johnson has promised to provide all kinds of aid to Ukraine.

Johnson Wants NATO to Follow His 6-Point Plan.

In a 6-point essay, the UK Prime Minister has reiterated that NATO allies should help Ukraine. He has added that they should provide defensive equipment to support the Ukrainian government against Russia. He has already ensured the Ukrainian government of the British defensive equipment. Boris Johnson’s deputy has also said that NATO needs to show some strategic strength against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In his article in New York Times, Boris Johnson asked the Western allies to assist Ukraine. He also asked them to maximize the economic pressure on Vladimir Putin’s regime. Before the invasion of Ukraine, Boris Johnson had asked the Western allies to speak with one voice against Russia. The UK Prime Minister had already announced that Britain had made a package of sanctions ready against Russia.

UK PM Cares for Euro-Atlantic Security

Through the conflict in Eastern Europe, Britain has called on allies to ensure Vladimir Putin fails in Ukraine. London and Paris had already agreed on the necessity of NATO’s union against Russian aggression in Eastern Europe. Boris Johnson has said the Russian offensives was a reason to keep the Euro-Atlantic alliance more united. The UK prime minister told his French counterpart that the coalition should work together to strengthen its Eastern border. Johnson has recently written that NATO should be powerful at its Eastern flank to reduce the risk of Russian aggression. He has mentioned that the allies should strengthen Euro-Atlantic security and expand their support to non-NATO European countries. Euro-Atlantic Partnership is an alliance across the Euro-Atlantic area, including NATO and non-NATO European and Central Asian allies. Brexit Britain has pushed for a partnership beyond the EU countries to play a central role against Russia.

The UK Rejects Visas for Many Ukrainian Refugees

By unveiling a 6-point plan, the UK Prime Minister desires to lead the West against the disliked Russian government. The project seems to be a claim of leading the world’s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But the opposition Labour Party has accused Boris Johnson of not acting quickly over sanctions. Moreover, the British government has granted few visas for Ukrainian refugees. The UK Home Office has received thousands of visa applications but has given only 300. Boris Johnson has rejected requests for the UK to ease visa requirements for Ukrainian refugees escaping the conflict. More than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine in less than two weeks since the beginning of the crisis. But Britain was far behind the other European countries to accept those who escaped the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Europe.

Conclusion

Russia-Ukraine conflict is a test for determining the West’s unity in every field. The British government has struggled to take a leading role during this crisis among the Western countries. The UK Prime Minister has set out a 6-point plan, calling on his allies to make Vladimir Putin fail. The UK PM has spent a recent week of intense diplomatic efforts to build a united front against Russia. He called on allies to implement their punishing sanctions to force Russia to retreat from Ukraine. While the trans-Atlantic alliance is not acting united, Brexit Britain has suggested Euro-Atlantic gather NATO and other European allies under one umbrella.

He has criticized world leaders for not learning lessons from previous Russian behaviour, asking for a broad Euro-Atlantic unity. He boasted about harder and faster sanctions against Russia while he did not act quickly on implementing British sanctions. Johnson promised to provide money and equipment to Ukraine but did not grant visas for many refugees. After the revelations about Johnson’s lockdown gatherings, it is an excellent time to be at the centre of attention. His leadership was under threat, as many have asked him to resign, and his public popularity has reduced. Boris Johnson rides on a wave of unity to look impressive on the world stage to reboot his premiership.
